October in Benjamin Preschool

Benjamin Preschool Senec

Ms. Lala's Class

This month we made applesauce/ apple puree in class. The students loved participating in making applesauce and then enjoying the fruits of their labor at the end, when they got to eat it! First we learned where applesauce comes from (from apples that grow on trees. This helps them begin to comprehend economic concepts such as food supply and scientific ideas like the plant cycle. The students were encouraged to help cut the apples with butter knives. They are usually so honored to be allowed to use a knife that they treat them with the utmost respect. This is also a great opportunity to talk about personal safety practices, while encourage fine motor skills. We learned what ingredients go into applesauce. We tasted these ingredients individually before learning how each of these ingredients together compliment each other when mixed together for our puree.   Children loved this activity because they got to eat the end product, so it was a great way to sneak in a ton of other learning opportunities.

Ms. Anna's Class

Miss Anna’s Class went on an observational nature walk to encourage children to observe the cages in their environment with all their sense. The wake helped develop focus and take in the details of things around them. It was a peaceful and reflective experience for the whole class. As they walked they were encouraged to pay attention to the environment with all their senses with the help of:

Seeing questions: what can you see? Look all around you, up at the sky and down at the ground.

Smelling questions: what can you smell? Can you describe the smell? Leafy? Like mud?

Hearing questions: what can you hear? Birds? The wind? Other people?

Feeling and touching questions: what can you feel? Is the sun warm? Is the ground rough or smooth?

Kindergarten Class and Bunnies Class

Art connects us to history, our self, and cultures around the world. It teaches kids how to think critically, how to solve problems, and how to express themselves. Introducing children to famous artists and the art movements that shaped their work is more than a lesson in history; it is an invitation to explore the kaleidoscope of human expression and imagination. Inspired by the vibrant  plants, colours and patterns brought by Autumn, the Bunny Class & the Kindergarten Class explored the fascinating world of Yayoi Kusama.

Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist who is sometimes called "The Princess Of Polka Dots". Although she makes lots of different types of art, namely ; paintings, sculptures, performances and installations – she has become known for the one thing they have in common, DOTS. Yayoi Kusama often features kabocha, or pumpkin, in her work  because she admires them for their everyday quality, hardiness and unique, sometimes humorous forms. Over the years, the pumpkins have taken many forms, colours and shapes, but they are always covered in the artist’s signature polka dot pattern.

By adding all-over marks and dots to her paintings, drawings, objects and clothes she feels as if she is making them, and herself,  melt into, and become part of, the bigger universe.

Benjamin Preschool Pezinok

Ladybug Class

Fall is a beautiful season full of colors and a lot of products such as fruits, leaves, pine cones, acorns.. which fall brings with it. We were also inspired by fall and prepared this activity for the kids; during which they can train their fine motor skills, concentration, coordination and creativity. Pine Cone and Elastic Band activity is very easy to realize. Together with the kids, we collected a few pine cones in the park and prepared rubber bands, and then we let the clever hands of the kids work.

Bees Class

Learning about Fall and leaves changing colors can be fun. Children experimented with colorful paint and forks instead of brushes. They brought their unique vision of a tree to life. Each child dipped their fork into paint, pressing it onto paper to create textured leaves that danced with color. We also used trees to talk about friendship and children traced their hands on colorful paper, cut it out and transformed it into leaves for their friendship tree. Once the leaves were attached to the tree, the kids marveled at their collective artwork, symbolizing the friendship that united them.

Kindergarten Class

Fall is the most colorful season of the year! We say this every year and every year nature amazes us with its colorful beauty. That is the reason why we focus on learning about the fall season and colors in October. We not only talked about the natural realia, the difference between the trees, its fruits, life cycle, weather changes, how we dress up, what special holidays we celebrate in fall, about harvest time but we also had a special day of Fridays - color day! We had orange, yellow and red Fridays, when children were asked to come dressed in a certain color and to bring the Show and Tell in that particular color. Two “tasks, homework” for one day, we truly enjoyed! By the end of October we can see that leaves in our playground and also in the park started to turn from green to yellow, red, orange or brown. We also made many colorful fall crafts. Happy fall to everyone!
